Marina Hopcroft

Violin

Marina Hopcroft began her musical career as a seven-year-old Suzuki student, then as a Newcastle Conservatorium scholarship holder until embarking on a big family adventure (led by her Doctor father) to regions such as Christmas Island and King lsland. Year 12 was spent in Alice Springs and on the advice of the then conductor of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Martin Jarvis, she decided to study the violin, graduating as the orchestra player of the year before heading to Melbourne for further study and finally back to Newcastle. During this time, she has learnt from inspiring violinists such as Miwako Abe, Ronald Woodcock, Chris Kimber, Elizabeth Holowell, Anna McDonald and Sue Collins. Supporting her study has led to a number of interesting jobs but she is now happiest playing and teaching the violin.

Annette Lee

Violin

Annette graduated from Newcastle conservatorium of music with a diploma of music education. She taught for 6 years full time and another 10 years as a casual high school music teacher. Her main interests are small ensemble and orchestral playing and she also enjoys being a “pit” musician in musicals. She was a foundation member of Orchestra Nova.
